In a series of meditative tableaux, Dog in the Shade depicts the slippery, tentative binary of time and memory, imagined here as a ghost story without the ghost. The longing of an owner for his dog is made present through half-gleaned and nascent narratives: a phone call un- answered, a sliver of light across the wall, and a visitor uninvited.
